This wildlife refuge is made up of 27,000 acres of forest, tidal marshes and ponds that are believed to be haunted by a demon mule. Stories say the beast was known to attack fishermen and loggers long ago, so the locals hunted it and chased it to its death in quicksand. The mule's spirit is said to linger here. This farm is rumored to be haunted and has even been investigated by ghost hunters. Haunting reports here include lights that turn on by themselves, bed covers that move on their own, and a rosary that has swung by itself. This bridge was built in 1865 and is rumored to be haunted by ghostly slaves. Some say if you enter the bridge, you'll see their bodies hanging from the rafters. Others say this story isn't true, as the bridge was built after the end of slavery and the Civil War. A ghostly woman has also been spotted walking along the bridge wearing old-fashioned clothing. This state park was once a Civil War prison camp called Camp Lincoln. There is a lighthouse on the premises that is said to be haunted by a Civil War soldier who has appeared leaning against the door frame in photos that are taken here.
